SHARON HIGH SCHOOL

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate full-time American Sign Language (ASL) teacher to join our collaborative World Languages and Cultures Department. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator capable of teaching students across a range of proficiency levels, from Novice Low to Intermediate Mid. A valid Massachusetts teaching license in American Sign Language is required. Our department follows the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and embraces proficiency-based, communicative approaches to language instruction, including visual and interactive strategies that support ASL acquisition. The ideal candidate is also someone eager to plan and support cultural learning opportunities, events, or exchanges related to the Deaf community. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Massachusetts educator license in American Sign Language (5–12).
  • Proven experience teaching ASL at the secondary level.
  • Knowledge of ACTFL proficiency standards and proficiency-based instruction.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience integrating Deaf culture into curriculum and school-wide events.
  • Proficiency in using technology to support visual language learning.
  • Background in developing thematic, proficiency-based ASL curriculum.
