Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Are you ready to make a difference during critical times? Join our Extreme Weather Response team as a Shelter Attendant, providing essential overnight care and support to those in urgent need. You’ll help residents build skills for stable housing, connect to vital resources, and work toward their goals—all while offering compassionate, hands-on support during extreme weather events.
Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will ensure a safe and secure environment for residents by managing the premises, handling conflicts, and supervising chores. You will conduct client intakes, provide orientation, and establish clear boundaries to foster a positive atmosphere. Your responsibilities include maintaining safety, providing basic necessities, supporting residents with their barriers, and documenting interactions. You will manage shelter supplies, participate in facility maintenance, respond to emergencies, and visit other sites as needed. Your role also involves maintaining professional growth, communicating with external agencies, and ensuring accurate record-keeping and wellness checks.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Extreme Weather Response Program is operated in conjunction with HSABC, BC Housing, and Options and runs from October through April. Options operates 3 low barrier extreme weather shelters in varying locations throughout Surrey and Delta that provide basic services and shelter to street-entrenched populations.
The ideal candidate for this position should have a diploma in social services or related field, or at least one year of experience working with vulnerable populations, with education and experience considered together. A valid First Aid Certificate, Class 5 Driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
