Work Location: Beck Ave. Shelter located in Fairfield, CA Employment Details: Full time, hourly position. Must have availability for all 3 shifts: Swing shift (3:30 PM-11:30 PM), Graveyard and weekends/ holidays. Compensation: $18.50/hour About the role: We have 2 openings for Shelter Attendants at our Beck Avenue Navigation Center. Our facility temporarily houses up to 90 formerly homeless participants. Shelter Attendants are responsible for the day-to-day participant and facility needs during shift, including responsibility for participant meals, supplies/inventory, facility safety/repairs, cleanliness of the site, interacting with visitors/ volunteers and more! What you’ll do: Facilities and Security Monitor facility, making rounds every 30-60 minutes, assuring a clean, safe and healthy facility environment. Identify and address hazardous and potentially hazardous items and situations. Respond in emergencies and emergency preparation drills. Identify, document, and communicate the need for prompt correction of facility maintenance and repair issues. Maintain a daily sign-in/out sheet of shelter participants and guests. Clean the facility including, sweeping walkways, sweeping and mopping floors, wiping counters and all surfaces, tables, doing house laundry (washing, drying and folding), emptying trash bins, etc. Assist participants with cleaning activities as needed. Keep the refrigerator, freezer and pantry clean and well organized. Discard food that is past its expiration date. Inventory supplies and furnishings regularly, noting items needed on the designated assigned board for supplies. May act as primary point of contact for donations, accepting only items that meet shelter needs and agency policy. Sort and store all donations. Guest Volunteer and Program Support Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality regarding participant PPI while actively fostering a safe and welcoming atmosphere. Observe and report behavior that violate guidelines or create an unhealthy environment in daily log; complete incident reports and contact supervisor as needed and or appropriate. Handle disputes between participants in a positive professional and respectful manner and diffuse potential stressful/hostile situations prior to occurrence whenever possible. Assist with serving and meal preparation as needed, including assisting volunteer groups that prepare meals. Must follow all food handler requirements when doing so. Serve as main contact with guests and volunteers, orient volunteers to the facility, conduct tours and assist volunteers as needed or when assigned by Shelter Management or Leadership. Provide resource items (i.e. toiletries, diapers, laundry soap, donations, etc.) as requested by shelter participants, noting items on log and taking responsibility to obtain and/or notify supervisor of needed items. Administrative Administrative tasks as assigned, such as updating rosters, photocopying, data entry and creating Word and Excel documents. Assure that all equipment required of the position (walkie-talkies, cell phones etc.) are always charged and ready for use. What you’ll bring: High School Diploma or GED. Experience working with low-income and/or homeless populations. Must have or obtain and maintain ServSafe certification.
