Description We are Hiring! Job Posting: Shelter Caseworker Location: 34 E State st, Mt. Morris, NY Employment Type: Full-Time 35 hrs a week OVERNIGHT shift Salary: $20.00/hour General Description The Shelter Caseworker supports homeless individuals in Livingston County by completing an intake for clients and provide support services to clients while in the warming center. Connecting them with community resources, and promoting long-term stability is a key component to this position. The Caseworker will likely encounter clients that have experiences with long term homelessness, mental health and substance abuse concerns along with other barriers that impact their ability to maintain suitable/safe housing. Essential duties for this position are empathy, effective communication skills, problem solving skills, crisis de-escalation, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and solution-based results. The caseworker will receive clients being referred from DSS. The Caseworker will welcome the client, acclimate them to the facility and ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients is maintained. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides coverage to the warming center as scheduled or needed between the hours of 4 pm and 8 am. Responsible for regular monitoring of all areas of facility regarding the appearance and safety of all clients/staff. Responsible for inventory/maintenance needs to be provided to DSS. Completion of incident reports as applicable per agency procedures. Ensure signing in of clients upon entering. Assist clients with providing community resources and problem solving to situations. Develop an approach that will work with each client to create an environment that is calm and cohesive. Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. Requirements Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED required Credentials: Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier Experience: At least 2 years of experience in social services, case management, or a related field is preferred. Additional Qualifications: Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with community partners and maintain professional relationships. Flexibility adapting to the needs of clients and varying work schedules. Ability to prioritize assignments, plan, and complete work projects with minimal direction Exceptional time management skills and ability to effectively and meet deadlines Excellent verbal/written communication skills Ability to work in the following software programs: Windows, Microsoft Office, and multiple online software platforms as required by funders and partner organizations Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle confidential information with discretion Ability to demonstrate behaviors and attitudes which support organizational mission, philosophy, and policies Ability to work in a cooperative and helpful manner with all individuals Willingness and ability to foster agency and program wide cooperation and teamwork through use of positive/constructive communication techniques Continuous use of a reliable, registered and insured vehicle.
