POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the authority of the Board of Directors and in accordance with established policies and procedures the Shelter Manager will assume the following tasks and responsibilities:
¨ Provides leadership, organizes and directs Animal Care Centre operations
¨ Directing the overall operations, budgets and capital assets of the organization;
¨ Management of all permanent, full-time, part-time, casual staff and volunteers of the organization;
¨ Directing the overall programming of the organization;
¨ Promoting the organization and its programs in the media and to the general public, and managing the image of the organization in a senior public relations role
¨ Developing and maintaining professional liaison with all levels of government and with the community.
¨ Answering and directing incoming calls to the LHS via the main switchboard
¨ Greeting and assisting walk-in clients
¨ Data entry & clerical work
¨ Management of fund development program for the organization;
¨ Management of volunteer program for the organization;
¨ Management of humane education program for the organization;
¨ Management of finance and bookkeeping.

EDUCATION:

¨ High School Diploma
¨ Business and/or Office Administration an asset
¨ Finance/ bookkeeping experience an asset
¨ Experience with a non-profit organization an asset

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

¨ Management and administrative skills, including financial and human resources
¨ Exceptional telephone skills and the ability to deal with difficult callers/situations
¨ Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills,
¨ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
¨ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, supervise and self motivate
¨ Be results oriented with good organization and time management
¨ Fund raising knowledge including basic fundraising principles and techniques
¨ Recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers to assist employees in the efficient running of the facility; experience with coordinating volunteers
¨ Valid Canadian driver’s license with a good driving record.¨ Excellent communication, judgment and customer service skills.
¨ Must be self-motivated and work well under pressure.
¨ Punctual and dependable, an interest in improving job performances.
¨ Writing, editing and proofreading skills.
¨ Ability to make presentations, facilitate groups, and public speaking.
¨ Good understanding of the public budgeting process.
¨ Knowledge and experience in the areas of animal welfare considered an asset
¨ Familiar with Animal Protection & Stray Animal Act and of Canadian Kennel practices considered an asset
¨ Skill in proposal and grant writing and the ability to plan and direct capital, annual, deferred and endowment programs.
