If so, consider coming to work with us as a Shelver and join our Material Services Team. This is a part-time position (18 hours/week).
Under the supervision of the Shelver Supervisor, this employee serves as a Shelver. The Shelver is responsible for sorting, shelving, and maintaining orderliness of library materials daily. Participates in inventorying the collection and gathering materials for the hourly holds list. The Shelver will work in conjunction with other department and library staff. Specific responsibilities/functions will be assigned by the Shelver Supervisor on the basis of experience, skills, and specific needs of the department.
The pay rate for this position is $15/hour.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least a Junior in High School required.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong working knowledge of alphabetizing, numerical order, and the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative, courteous working relationships with a multicultural/multigenerational staff and patron population.
  • Successfully handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Can listen, analyze, problem solve, and exercise good judgment when handling both routine and non-routine issues.
  • Works independently and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Communicates effectively in person, by telephone and in writing, with staff and the public.
  • Can operate a personal computer; has knowledge of ILS software and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of media, fiction, and nonfiction materials.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, carts, and ability to reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Adaptable to changes in existing practices, library routines, and workflows.
