Location: Coventry, CV3 2RQ
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000

ABOUT US

Concept Engineering Services is a leading provider of engineering, construction, and materials testing services, committed to maintaining the highest standards in Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ). We are looking for an experienced SHEQ Advisor to join our team in London or Coventry, ensuring compliance with ISO standards and driving continuous improvement across our operations.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety).
  • IRCA QMS Internal Auditor (ISO 9001) qualification.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience implementing and managing SHEQ policies in engineering, construction, or materials testing industries.
  • Experience leading site audits, accident investigations, and compliance assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Experience managing safety performance reviews and reporting SHEQ KPIs.

TECHNICAL SKILLS & COMPLIANCE:

  • Understanding of regulatory and legal requirements for H&S across different sectors (e.g., Energy, Rail).
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessments, method statements, and SOPs.
  • Ability to conduct equipment compliance reviews (PUWER regulations).
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and SHEQ-related digital tools.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Full clean manual driving license.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Additional ISO certifications (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 lead auditor qualification).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in high-risk environments such as Energy, Rail, or Civil Engineering.
  • Background in incident investigation & root cause analysis.
  • Experience managing Sentinel administration and supplier onboarding processes.

SOFT SKILLS & LEADERSHIP:

  • Experience training employees on SHEQ best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence teams at all levels.
  • Previous leadership experience in SHEQ strategy development & implementation.
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a SHEQ Advisor, you will be responsible for implementing and managing SHEQ policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001, and promoting a positive safety culture across our offices and project sites. You will conduct audits, lead investigations, and work closely with management, employees, and supply chain partners to drive SHEQ excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement proactive and reactive SHEQ measures to promote a safe working environment.
  • Develop, review, and maintain risk assessments, method statements, and SOPs for work activities.
  • Conduct regular site audits and inspections to monitor SHEQ performance.
  • Lead accident and near-miss investigations, identifying trends and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards, supporting audits and certification processes.
  • Review supplier and contractor suitability, including risk assessments and performance evaluations.
  • Oversee H&S training programs, ensuring compliance with sector-specific requirements (e.g., Energy, Rail).
  • Manage PPE standards, ensuring appropriate protection across different work environments.
  • Provide regular SHEQ reports and dashboard data to senior management, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support Sentinel system administration and lead annual RISQ and Achilles audits.
