A key aspect of this position is to develop and maintain strong, positive working relationships with our clients and stakeholders by taking proactive measures to engage and demonstrate visible leadership across our work programmes. You will also collaborate with peers across M Group to maintain service consistency, share best practices and foster innovation. You’ll work closely with all areas of the operational business to ensure Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality, and Competence requirements are clearly communicated, understood, and embedded. You will implement initiatives designed to drive continuous improvement in safety, health, and environmental performance. Ensuring the business consistently exceeds legal compliance standards, whilst fostering a workplace where employees feel safe and protected.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of our clients’ requirements including the Great Grid Upgrade Partnership (GGP) and ASTI with SPEN and SSE project and work in close collaboration with the clients to ensure the safe, compliant and effective delivery of business objectives, with a clear focus on health, safety, and risk management
  • Responsible for ensuring a robust process is in place to ensure that all serious incidents, failures, and events are thoroughly investigated, root cause analysis is completed, and action plans defined and delivered.
  • Determine the appropriate managements systems standards, certification and levels of implementation that will ensure that the business meet compliance obligations, function to a high standard but not burden the business with unnecessary process and meet all of regularity requirements.
  • Work across the business unit teams to identify areas of improvement and good practice and dissemination to others.
  • Act as the main point of contact for customers, external parties and enforcing agencies on all SHEQ matters.
  • Ensure that the business is aware of and in a position to respond to changes in legislation, customer requirements and changes in industry practice through networking and analysis.
  • Produce accurate statistical reports identifying, measuring, and resolving significant risks, nonconformities together with KPI data.
  • Direct and drive the annual SHEQ objectives and business initiatives.
  • Direct the development and introduction of systems and tools to meet the requirements of business in the most effective manner.
  • To carry out routine site visits, including surveys, inspections and audits. Output to include survey reports, inspection reports, actions and any other required documentation to drive continual improvement.
  • Lead and support a team of Managers to ensure that their areas of responsibilities are performing to the Business and the departments objectives.
  • Influence at all levels so the key requirements of the department are communicated, understood and implemented by the business

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

As the SHEQ Director, you will lead the strategic development and implementation of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality initiatives across the organisation, with a strong focus on behavioural safety and fostering a proactive safety culture. You will champion continuous improvement by embedding safe working behaviours at all levels, ensuring that compliance with legal, regulatory, and company standards is not only met but exceeded. Through visible leadership, coaching, and engagement, you will drive cultural change, promote personal accountability, and ensure that safety is seen as a shared responsibility. Your role will be pivotal in aligning operational practices with our commitment to zero harm and sustainable excellence
This role is pivotal in ensuring that Transmission & Renewables remains fully compliant with relevant safety legislation, through the proactive implementation and management of safety processes and systems.
