The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Sheriff's Deputy. The successful applicant will perform the duties and responsibilities of a Sheriff's Deputy. Starting salary is $68,203/annually. There is a mandatory physical and written test on Saturday, February 7th, 2026 at 9am. All applicants must attend on this date. Please bring your drivers license and cell phone for registration. We will conduct the physical fitness test first, so please wear athletic clothing. Testing will be held at the Justice Center, 650 West State Street, Rockford, IL. (If an alternative testing site is chosen, applicants will ne notified via email.) The application window closes on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 5pm.. QUALIFICATIONS Must be a citizen of the United States Must be at least 21 years of age Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Must possess a valid driver’s license upon which the applicant may legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of Illinois. Must not have been convicted of a felony nor any other crime which would prevent the applicant from attending a certified academy for basic police training under the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILSC 705/1 et seq.) or which would prevent the applicant from legally possessing a firearm. The physical fitness test consist of a 1.5 mile run, sit ups, a bench press, and sit and reach.
