SHIFT ENGINEER

The main purpose of this role is to maintain and improve our plant operating performance in a safe and proficient manner.
Shifts: Working 4 on 4 off (2 Days, 2 Nights 4 off pattern) (6am – 6pm and 6pm – 6am).
Location: Crewe
Salary: £52,000 per annum

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Recognised qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. (Level 3). Ideally multi skilled.
  • 2 + years’ experience as a time served Engineer within a manufacturing/maintenance setting. Ideally within the food sector
  • Ideal requirements:
  • Recognised H&S qualification - IOSHH
  • Food Safety awareness - HACCP
  • Good computer literacy
  • PLC Knowledge (Siemens S7, Mitsubishi)
  • Inverter knowledge (Lenz, Mitsubishi, ABB)
  • Robots (ABB)
Responsibilities

KEY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • To swiftly respond to machine breakdowns effectively prioritising maintenance support in conjunction with supervisor
  • To carry out maintenance and repairs to all equipment as required.
  • To help ensure appropriate stock levels of critical replacement parts.
  • To effectively work with contractors using all necessary company procedures. Take corrective action when necessary.
  • To communicate effectively with, and support production departments with advice and information to maintain the effective running of the equipment.
  • To make recommendation and carry out work to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • To play an active part in training and self development to ensure effective support for production.
  • Ensure that all chemicals are food safe and stored appropriately
  • To carry-out ad hoc projects as and when required
  • There may be a requirement to temporarily to stand in for the Shift Supervisor.
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested by the business

Health, Safety & Environment Responsibilities:

  • Know Health & Safety responsibilities, the site rules, and bring to the attention to issues that could affect own, or others Health, Safety & Welfare.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times
  • Fully comply with all signage, notices, warning labels etc.
  • Bring to the attention of your manager any hazards or unsafe conditions that may lead to injury, ill health, or damage.
  • Participate fully in all Health, Safety & Environmental training sessions, and Safety Briefings / Toolbox Talks
  • Not misuse of interfere with anything provided to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • Ensure a good standard of housekeeping is maintained within the working environment to minimise the risk of injury to themselves or others.
  • Correctly use and store the protective clothing and equipment provided.
  • Report all injuries, near misses, and instances of ill health that occur to them at work and obtain the necessary First Aid Treatment.
  • Help in the investigation of accidents in order to prevent recurrence.
  • Set a good example of safe behaviour, particularly to new starters and young persons.

Food Safety & Quality Responsibilities:

  • To adhere to all Food Safety & Quality regulations and policies Food Safety Regulations, Hygiene Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Observe Hygiene regulations relating to each department and maintain a high standard of personal hygiene at all times.
  • Ensure Clean as You Go (CAYG) practices are in place
