QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation in power engineering from a recognized institution is a must
  • Relevant experience of 4 years, or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience
  • Certificate of competency as a 3rd class power engineer or higher as recognized by BC Safety Authority
  • Ability to communicate efficiently both in a verbal and written manner
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Physical ability to perform the job’s requirements is required
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to use relevant machinery
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for safely running and maintaining high-pressure steam boilers and related equipment in the Steam Plant, following safety laws and regulations.
  • Monitors and operates the boiler system and records information, responding to alarms and making needed adjustments.
  • Tests and maintains the chemical treatment for the boiler feed water and condensate systems.
  • Operates and maintains all emergency generators and related emergency equipment.
  • Responds to service and emergency calls, resets systems, and arranges for repairs when needed.
  • Supervises staff, assigns work, evaluates performance, and arranges training.
  • Communicates with the Protection Services Department and helps during fires or emergencies, maintaining emergency response equipment.
  • Monitors and adjusts building systems to ensure they run efficiently and at the correct settings.
  • Investigates alarms and makes adjustments to systems when needed.
  • Responds to temperature complaints, checks system logs, and adjusts settings as needed.
  • Assists during elevator issues and calls for technician help when necessary.
  • Responds to issues with the Pneumatic Tube System (Transitube) and makes adjustments when needed.
  • Monitors and maintains the chilled water systems, including chillers and cooling towers, to ensure they run efficiently.
  • Monitors and maintains the chemical treatment of the chilled water systems.
  • Performs regular maintenance on all mechanical equipment, boilers, HVAC systems, and other related systems.
