We pride ourselves on our commitment to exceptional food service and community engagement, creating an inviting space for all.  Our Hearts & Flour Bakery is currently hiring for a Shift Leader.  The Shift Leader's core purpose is to deliver an exceptional customer experience through flawless execution of daily operations within the café. Shift leaders are responsible for opening and closing the coffee bar, maintaining effective deployment, following up on task completion and execution, and holding others accountable for delivering high quality service while serving each customer according to Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery and Café’s high standards. Additionally, shift leaders perform the other responsibilities outlined within the team member and barista roles and set the example for outstanding performance within those roles. RESPONSIBILITIES:  In addition to upholding Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery and Café’s culture and values, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  * Ensure that customers receive an exceptional experience in the service, speed, quality, and cleanliness of their Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery and Café visit by executing proper position and task deployment both as service lead and as assigned.  * Model effective, appropriate communication with customers and co-workers. When necessary, de-escalate and resolve conflict.  * Embody Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery and Café culture of respect and dignity while working alongside resident staff.  * Perform opening and closing routines, ensuring the coffee bar and team are set up and prepared to delight our customers from open to close.  * Act as cash controller, ensure accurate cash records and reconciliation are performed and follow all cash handling guidelines.  * Protect Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery and Café assets by following all operating procedures within the Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery and Café handbook.  * Respond to operational issues during the shift, such as placing work orders for equipment outages or placing orders in the manager's absence.  * Complete operational directives such as executing promotions, marketing updates, visual directives, or operational checklist.  * Communicate all relevant information to the management team to ensure smooth shift handoffs and effective coffee bar operations.  * Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  * HSD/GED required  * Have 1+ years supervisor experience with cash handling responsibilities in a high-volume coffee shop, or related food or service industry.  * Ability to perform various physical tasks during the work shift.  * Carry a friendly, energetic, personable demeanor and passion for excellent customer service, with a customer-first mentality.  * Carry themselves professionally, be agile and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.  * Have strong time management and delegation skills.  * Possess good problem-solving skills and sound judgment.  * Be an excellent communicator.  * Be able and willing to mentor team members and baristas.  * Exhibit a strong focus on quality with interest in learning more about coffee.  * Be highly reliable and punctual.  * Enjoy working in a team environment and building great relationships with their co-workers.  * Can work quickly, embrace and learn new information, multi-task, and incorporate feedback into personal performance.  * Perform operational responsibilities within the barista and team member role as needed.  Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  * Certified Food Service Manager obtained through the Chicago Department of Health * Illinois Food Allergen Training Certificate   Pay Range: $21.00-21.50 an hour  Status: Full-Time, preferred  Must be able to either open at 5 am or close until 5 pm; possibility of a shift being any day of the week/weekend. Prefer FT, open to PT who can work at least 24 hours/week or more.
