To manage the mills production efficiencies, people productivity, and overall capacity of the production facility to ensure optimum performance of the plant with regard to product quality, cost, service levels and working capital. WHAT YOU WILL DO: Asset Management Achievement of overall production parameters; Continuous availability of equipment; Reduced down time due to equipment breakdown ; Reduced milling and engineering costs. Proactive approach to milling repairs and maintenance programmes i.e. condition of rolls; condition of all screens and covers; internal repair of plane sifter and purifiers; Timeous reporting of mechanical problems; Identification of areas requiring attention, completion, submission and signing off of engineering job cards. Inventory Management Finished product model stock levels maintained;; Consumable model stock levels maintained at agreed levels; Manufacturing losses eliminated. Operate the mills according to planned relevant production schedules with the various departments to ensure that orders are met timeously; Blend and transfer finished products according to specified recipes and designated mill, packing and bulk bins; Monitor consumable spares stocks i.e. bolting cloth, cleaning pads, exhaust filter sleeves, glue. Submit purchase requisitions to Mill Manager for consumable ingredients and milling spares; Report on and investigate any stock variances; Stock management – rotation of vitamins and additives; On site returns management – reprocessing of trade returns as per agreed percentages. Implement planned conditioning times and mill running hours Designation of finished product receiver bins. Financial Management Continuous Improvement; Zero write offs Adherence to stores control and recommended reordering levels; Optimize production efficiencies i.e. extractions & milling gains. Minimize production rejects. Plant and equipment adjustments and settings. Corporate Governance Adherence to Company Policies and Procedures; Adds to the value of the company and is also beneficial to all stakeholders in the long term. Work within a set of systems, principles and processes by which the company is governed; Adherence to all company Policies and Procedures. Compliance to the company’s “Way of Working” e.g. Code of Ethics, compliance to Competition Law etcetera. Work with integrity. Health and Safety / RISK / Environmental Compliance with Statuatory and Company requirements at all times. Achieving targeted scores in all audits Compliance to Environment and Risk policies and procedures; Accident/incidents are minimized; Adherence to the Occupational Health & Safety Act; Adherence to internal company policies, procedures, work instructions, standard operating procedures and job observations; Target zero Disabling Injuries; Efficient use of Utilities; Minimise waste. Reporting of all unsafe practices and conditions. Quality Assurance Good Manufacturing Practices in place and maintained; Food Safety adherence; Compliance to Legislation; Consistent finished product scores; Decrease in Customer complaints; undefined Storage control, Housekeeping and Cleaning Procedures, Personal Hygiene, Sanitation of plant, Pest Control, Fumigation; Physical confirmation of wheat grist’s ex silos; Compliance to quality specifications; Observance of Food Safety programs; Compliance to Wheat and Maize Product Standards Act, Fortification Act, Consumer Protection Act and Labelling Act. Notification of relevant persons, rejection and isolation of out of specification finished products. Training, Staff Leadership and Teamwork Improvement in plant availability and production efficiency %; Reduction in product deviations; High morale. Ascertain Trainee Millers training gaps; Application of Workplace Improvement (20 Keys) and Operational Improvement Management (InvoComs) initiatives. Maintains open channels of communication; Maintains close liaison with other disciplines at operations to ensure integrated decision making; Encourages the sharing of knowledge and ideas amongst own and other team members. Recommend level of training required; Provide “on the job training” and “knowledge sharing” with subordinates; Identify the abilities of team members and decide which are best used to the benefit of the company. Schedule workload to meet priorities and targets. Operational Targeted manufacturing efficiencies are achieved within prescribed quality specifications. Mills run at design capacity; Milling downtime < 1.0% of the total milling hours in the mills. Achieve target extractions; Minimize milling downtime; Complete production log sheets; Complete blending and transfer reports; Complete quality analysis reports; Adherence to good milling practices i.e. break releases, sample analysis; Proficient setting and efficient working of all plant and equipment to achieve balanced mills; Quality targets achieved; Precise conditioning and cleaning of raw material; Correct stocks of conditioned maize/ wheat; Examination of wheat/ maize, check all screen room samples, inspection of mill samples; In process sample taking and quality control checks. Analyse, decide on and prioritise actions based on hourly and bi hourly results; Intimate understanding of wheat and impurities; Optimum conditioning times and water addition quantities; Ensure that foreign objects e.g. stones, foreign and poisonous seeds, metals, husks, straw, etcetera are effectively removed from the wheat/ maize; In depth knowledge of manufacturing equipment, to ensure optimum and efficient settings to achieve specified quality and production parameters. WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TABLE: Minimum qualifications required by the position: Ideal Qualifications Qualified Wheat OR Maize miller – GMF Trade Test City & Guilds of London – Advanced Flour Milling; National Association of British & Irish Millers.
