JOB DESCRIPTION:

Horizons for Youth is a 45 bed 24/7 emergency shelter for homeless and at risk youth. Our comprehensive services include case management, informal counseling, recreational, educational activities, housing placement assistance, aftercare aid and mental health support.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Shelter Manager, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shelter during their assigned shift. This includes providing direction to staff, ensuring program expectations are met, responding to emergencies, and ensuring resident safety and wellbeing. The Shift Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in ensuring a high standard of service delivery and operational efficiency.
Shift work evenings, weekends and overnights
On call duties, scheduling, conducts supervisions and performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director & Shelter Manager.
Conducts monthly fire drills in adherence to agency guidelines. Reviews the Log Book of the previous shift to become familiar with any incidents or any activities that require follow-up on the current shift. Ensures that any incident is documented, but especially that priority incidents are recorded, and the appropriate management staff is notified. Completes electronic shift summaries and incident reports.
Education Requirements: College diploma / University degree in Social Services or a related field , or equivalent.
Experience Requirements: A minimum of 5 years of experience working with people diagnosed with mental illness or having a substance abuse addiction. At least 3 years of the required experience must have been in a supervisory capacity within a shelter or related environment.
Certificates: Must have a CPR, CPI and WHMIS, or have it completed within 90 days of starting employment.
Computer: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, power point, word and excel.
