Description

Under the general direction of the Plant Manger, this position is responsible for the coordination of manpower, machines and material while ensuring safety, quality and production.

Principal Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading, facilitating, planning and coordinating production activities and resources to ensure the timely delivery of quality products to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Enforcing the Occupational Heath and Safety Act. Training, developing and advising of safe work practices, assessing and eliminating hazards, ensuring PPW is worn, ensuring all machinery, equipment and tool are safe , etc.
  • Participating in, and leading continuous improvement activities on the shop floor including 5S, quality and productivity improvements.
  • Providing support to employee; ensuring access to information, training, tools and other resources to make them successful at their jobs.
  • Performing investigations to resolve safety, operational, or technical issues.
  • Assigning task to floor personnel while utilizing time, resources and equipment
  • Ensuring that job progress conforms to production schedules; maintaining master and detail production scheduling while establishing priorities.
  • Liaising with lead hands and other department including project management, quality, welding and estimating to receive clarification on, and resolve issues with blueprints, processes, requirements and products.
  • Ensuring that procedure and codes are being adhered to and that the work performed meets established quality standards.
  • Controlling project man-hours within budget while improving efficiency throughout the shop and ensuring that labour time is properly allocated on timesheets.
  • Monitoring shop indirect cost within specified targets
  • Managing and allocating overtime on an equitable basis in order to meet schedule priorities.
  • Allocating weekly manpower by department and shift and reporting and discrepancies between manpower availability and workload.
  • Processing nessary paperwork including accident investigation reports, vacation/[personal emergency forms, employee timesheets, work schedules. overtime refusals, etc.
  • Engaging the workforce and promoting personal accountability by setting, communicating and achieving departmental goals, empowering to drive improvements by providing ongoing feedback and evaluation.
  • Participating in personnel and industrial relation issues; documenting incidents, issuing discipline, effectively communicating with management, human resources and the union.
  • Working in cooperation with human resources to ensure uniform interpretation and application of the collective bargaining agreement, plant rule and company polices.
  • Ensuring that employees in all department are working in accordance with established safety regulations and plant rules for ensuring the overall good housekeeping within the plant.
  • Takes the necessary initiative to fulfill the general objective of this position even though such steps may not mentioned in the job description. In the uncertainties, he/she shall report to the plant manager.
  • May participate in the selection of new employee by conducting employment interviews,

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of recognized technical institute, apprenticeship
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years proven supervisory experience in steel fabrication industry; broad experience in welding processes and procedures
  • Must be innovative, cost oriented, and safety driven
