Job Title: Shift Technician (Grain and Bulks)
Location: Port of Tilbury
Hours: Monday – Friday shift rotation – 0600-1400 | 1400—2200 | 2200-0600
Compensation: £50,000-£55,000 + £5,071 shift allowance + OTE
Roles: Multiple
Overtime rate: 1.75x

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

We are seeking a skilled maintenance professional with at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience in maintaining industrial fixed plant and equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a relevant qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering at HNC/D or NVQ 2/3 level, with strong expertise in electrical and mechanical systems, PLCs and automation, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering qualification - ideally NVQ level 3 or above with sufficient experience
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, PLC’s and Automation, hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Experience of DSEAR and ATEX regulations. preference given to COMPEX EX05 and EX06 qualifications but not essential as training can be given
  • Proven knowledge of continuous fault-finding techniques, especially in industrial fixed plant and equipment environments
  • Electrical and mechanical fault-finding experience
  • Heavy plant and mobile platform experience
  • IT skills in Word, Excel
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Regulations
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Full right to work in the UK

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for the successful and timely undertaking of planned and reactive maintenance including all mandatory and statutory requirements, and timely and high-quality response to faults and breakdowns to ensure all plant, equipment and systems are in full working order to meet business needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To effectively use initiative and technical ability to provide a standard of work and productivity consistent with good customer service
  • Undertake planned maintenance, breakdown repair and condition monitoring activities of plant and equipment
  • Obtain a thorough working knowledge of plant equipment in order to effectively repair and maintain to minimise downtime
  • Report to engineering supervisors on status of machine breakdowns
  • To report any damage or misuse of plant equipment to engineering or operational supervision
  • Respond with written reports and provide signatures to statutory examinations or any other information as required
  • When required undertake ancillary tasks including fuelling, lubrication, cleaning or steam cleaning or any other task required in order to ensure the progress of work is not hindered
  • To act with due regard in the interests of safety and reliability in all aspects of maintenance and repair
  • Must act on instructions both written and verbal, including radio communication from engineering or operational supervisor
  • To be capable of driving vehicles and cargo handling equipment and accept training from a nominated person appointed by the Port
  • To be flexible between workshops and work areas
  • To be capable of working at heights on board vessels or any other place as directed
  • Show due regard for the Port’s property and the safety of yourself and other Port employees
  • Adhere to all Port regulations and working arrangements and comply with any relevant legislation in force
  • Responsible for ensuring that a clean, tidy and hazard free working environment is maintained to defined standards with a clear knowledge of those standards for DSEAR and Food Safety
