Location: London
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off – Days & Nights (12-hour shifts)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a data centre or critical environment role
  • HV Authorised (or previously held certification)
  • HNC/HND or completed apprenticeship in Electrical or Mechanical discipline
  • Good understanding of SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, risk assessments, and PTW systems
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead under pressure
  • IT literate with solid reporting and documentation skills
  • Physically fit and able to work shifts including nights and weekends
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a skilled and motivated 2IC (Second-in-Command) Shift Technician to join a high-performing team in a fast-paced data centre environment. This role is ideal for experienced engineers who thrive in critical environments and are ready to step up in leadership when required.
As the 2IC, you’ll support the Shift Leader with the safe and efficient operation of all site infrastructure – from electrical and mechanical systems to fire and cooling. You’ll play a key role in risk management, incident response, and compliance, while maintaining top-tier standards across all plant and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate and maintain all M&E systems (including HV/LV, cooling, fire suppression, BMS, etc.)
  • Act as Shift Leader when required, ensuring smooth running of all shift operations
  • Issue and oversee Permit to Work (PTW), ensuring adherence to all safety procedures
  • Supervise subcontractors and sign off completed work to the required standard
  • Participate in emergency procedure drills (EOPs) and site-specific training
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, equipment use, and critical spares
  • Support audits, continuous improvement, and ensure plant rooms meet show-site standards
