SUMMARY The Grinding Set Up Technician is responsible for grinding and smoothing coil spring surfaces to specification prior to finishing operations. This role includes machine setup, abrasive selection, routine maintenance, inspection, and adherence to safety protocols. The technician is also responsible for general housekeeping and continuous improvement efforts in the grinding area. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  * Examine and feel the surface of parts to detect defects. * Perform setup of grinder machines including abrasive stone selection based on metal type and job specs. * Load grinding fixtures and safely operate grinders. * Conduct load checks to ensure part quality and consistency. * Dress grinding stones as needed for flatness and sharpness. * Replace worn grinding stones and perform minor preventative maintenance on equipment. * Confirm safety devices are functioning and follow all safety protocols. * Accurately complete work orders, SPC forms, and departmental documentation. * Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S standards. * Participate in continuous improvement efforts. * Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor. COMPETENCIES * Attention to detail * Flexibility and adaptability * Team-oriented mindset  EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE  * High school diploma or GED required * SPC training and ability to read blueprints required * Experience with grinder setup or metal finishing preferred  TECHNICAL SKILLS & ABILITIES  * Understanding of grinding processes and abrasive selection * Basic math and measuring skills * Ability to complete job paperwork and follow written instructions * Comfortable operating shop floor computer systems and equipment SOFT SKILLS * Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors * Maintains safety awareness and professionalism * Flexible and responsive to production priorities * Consistently reliable with attendance and shift performance PHYICAL DEMANDS  * Required to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout shift * Must frequently lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs * Requires good hand-eye coordination and depth perception * Must be able to hear and speak clearly in a production environment  WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those a team member may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
