Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in such a manner that you get along with customers, suppliers, coworkers and management.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipment to verify information against bills of lading, orders or other records.
  • Communicates with carriers and customers to schedule material pick up.
  • Create and attach packing slips to boxes or containers as required.
  • Affixes shipping labels onto packed boxes or mark with identifying shipping information as required.
  • Print shipping labels.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges
  • Prepare and/or assimilate required paperwork for each shipment, i.e., packing slips, Bills of Lading export papers, QC inspection paper, etc.
  • Prepare UPS shipments and maintain records.
  • Collect C.O.D. payments.
  • Manage dock space to accommodate segregated holding areas i.e., UPS packages, daily
  • Shipments, weekly shipments or customer pick-up.
  • Maintain files of shipping samples and instructions i.e., UPS rules instructions, updated
  • Bar code samples and instructions.
  • Process UPS transactions by weighing containers, preparing shipping labels, maintaining
  • Logbook and calling for tracers.
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials, supplies and containers.
  • Backs up the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor.
  • Operates forklift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from dock to storage or work area.
  • Manage the safety and security of the loading dock and shipping area, keeping floors clean,
  • aisles clear, doors locked and preventing unauthorized persons from entering the plant area.
  • Performs Material Handler duties.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Maintain computer literacy on PC using company’s chosen software products and on in-house systems as applicable to position responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related
Experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals.
