Job Purpose: Shipping and Customs Clearance Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the logistics team by assisting in the coordination of the road freight and the preparation, processing and clearance of shipments. This role focuses on planning and scheduling transport operations to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of goods. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Effective communication with internal teams—including Sales/Commercial, Managing Director, Operations (Packhouse and Goods In/Bananas), and Quality—is essential. The role also involves an understanding of import logistics, particularly from the UK and Holland, and close coordination with customs processes to support seamless freight operations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in logistics, transport or Customs clearance.
  • Familiarity with import procedures, especially from Holland and the UK.
  • Experience with sea and road freight and knowledge of international shipping regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with various departments.
  • Proficient in using logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle unexpected challenges.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with haulers to ensure meeting expectations and trucks are delivered on time.
  • Plan and schedule road freight collections and deliveries.
  • Prior experience in road freight with trucks from the UK, Holland and France.
  • Coordinate with clearance team to manage the timely receipt of fresh produce from third-party countries.
  • Monitor vessel and container movement to identify potential delays.
  • Plan the load builder and organise pallet dispatch to meet delivery timelines and customer requirements.
  • Plan and book the transportation of produce from EU sources to our premises, primarily by road, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Sales/Commercial team to understand client delivery requirements and timelines.
  • Optimize routes and schedules to maximize efficiency and minimize delays
  • Handle any transportation-related issues or disruptions, providing timely solutions.
