Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Shipping & Receiving Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all activities related to the receipt of materials and finished goods, as well as the shipment of products from the pillow manufacturing plant. This role ensures that inventory is handled efficiently, shipments are processed accurately, and delivery schedules are met, all while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and operational efficiency. The manager will lead a team of shipping and receiving personnel, collaborate closely with production and warehouse teams, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet company needs and business requirements. Duties include:

  • Shipping & Receiving Operations:
  • Oversee daily operations for receiving raw materials and finished goods, ensuring all incoming shipments are logged, inspected, and stored according to plant procedures.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and efficient shipment of finished goods to customers, distributors, and retail partners.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to align production schedules with shipping requirements.
  • Manage the timely processing of sales orders and work closely with sales and customer service teams to meet customer delivery expectations.
  • Inventory Management:
  • Supervise the tracking and management of inventory levels in the shipping and receiving areas, ensuring that stock levels are accurately recorded and maintained.
  • Work with the warehouse team to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient storage space, ensuring optimal space utilization.
  • Conduct periodic inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies between physical stock and system records.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Lead, train, and develop a team of shipping and receiving clerks, forklift operators, and other logistics personnel.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage performance, resolve personnel issues, and ensure adherence to plant safety protocols.
  • Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensure all shipping and receiving operations comply with company policies, local regulations, and safety standards.
  • Train staff on safe material handling practices, proper use of equipment, and compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Implement and enforce safety and quality control procedures to minimize errors and product damage.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Continuously assess and improve processes to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs in the shipping and receiving functions.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., production, quality control, procurement) to optimize the flow of goods and materials within the plant.
  • Identify and address bottlenecks or challenges in the supply chain and implement solutions to resolve issues.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a shipping/receiving or logistics management role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in managing a team and leading operational improvements is highly preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, inventory control, and logistics management.
  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Strong communicator with ability to express point of view with confidence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. .

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
