Description It is the responsibility of the position to oversee all packaging, shipping, and material handling operations, ensuring that goods are packaged, documented, and delivered accurately and on time. This role combines hands-on warehouse responsibilities with clerical accuracy, container fabrication oversight, and supervisory duties. The Shipping Specialist coordinates with carriers, suppliers, and internal teams while leading shipping staff to maintain efficiency, safety, and compliance with company standards. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Help monitor shipment schedules, delivery performance, and resolve any transportation-related issues or delays. Help track shipments and communicate delivery status to customers and internal departments. Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and other transportation laws. Supervise and assist with loading/unloading trucks and trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, or dollies. Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and documentation for outbound shipments (BOLs, packing slips, labels). Oversee the accuracy and quality of loadouts, verifying counts, and reporting and escalating to management shortages/damages. Ensure that all loads are secure and follow safe transport standards to prevent loss of parts and damage of the load upon destination. Maintain clean and organized shipping areas, enforcing housekeeping standards. Safely drive vehicles to deliver and pick up goods from suppliers. Visually Inspect and maintain delivery vehicles ensuring it is in good working condition and compliant with safety regulations. Assist in preparing and approving all shipping documentation to ensure accuracy. Assist in schedule pickups/deliveries with carriers and vendors. Assist in maintaining accurate digital records of shipments and inventory. Assist in the construction and repair of shipping crates/containers. Ensure crates/containers meet structural, safety, and compliance standards. Allocate resources and assign tasks for container building as required. Maintain accurate inventory levels to support shipping operations. Promote a safety-first culture, including enforcement of PPE, load securement, and hazard reporting. Requirements A high school diploma is required. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain/Logistics is preferred but not required. A forklift certification is required. Previous OSHA or DOT training is preferred but not required. A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations is required. A valid commercial driver’s license (A CDL, no air) is preferred but not required. If the chosen candidate doesn’t have this upon their hire date, the chosen candidate must be willing to obtain a class B within the first 6 months of hire. The ability to delegate tasks and coordinate team members efficiently and effectively (while driving accountability) is required. Demonstrated proficiency with applicable compliance requirements and shipping regulations is required. Demonstrated proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office is required. The ability to read technical drawings for packaging and fabrication is required.
