Description The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project. We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 19,000 girls and 10,200 adult members. The Shop/Build-a-Bear Party Associate (per diem) is the first point of contact at the Service Center, welcoming and assisting customers and providing support to volunteers and other staff. The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Greets visitors and provides high quality services to all internal and external customers (Girl Scout members, parents, staff, etc.) by portraying a positive image of Girl Scouting. Rings up and assists customers with sales in the council shop. Maintains the shop appearance to GSNNJ standards. Coordinates & Executes Build-a-Bear parties with volunteers & girls Supervise program participants and ensure party areas are safe for participants Engages all guests during the party through the use of activities and party games Prepare the party area with tables, chairs, and any necessary equipment. Ensure that all party supplies and materials are ready before the event starts. Greet party hosts and guests upon arrival, making them feel welcome and comfortable. Provide assistance to guests as needed and answer any questions they may have. Foster a positive and engaging environment by interacting with children and adults alike and maintain energetic and positive attitude throughout the party Provide excellent customer service by addressing any concerns or issues that arise during the event. Follow the party schedule to ensure that activities occur on time, communicate effectively with party hosts and guests to keep them informed about the schedule. Efficiently clean and reset the party area after each event, including disposing of trash and cleaning surfaces, organize and store party supplies for future events. Lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, and kneel as necessary during event setup and cleanup Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Knowledge of and experience with customer service, retail and/or sales. Must be available to work nights and weekends Enthusiasm for working with children and the ability to engage with diverse age groups. A positive attitude, integrity, and interest in helping girls reach their fullest potential. Excellent organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and active listening skills. Ability to be creative and flexible in responding to changing priorities and emerging needs. Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize and meet deadlines, and to manage several activities simultaneously. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Membership in GSUSA is required upon employment. Valid driver’s license, reliable automobile, and auto insurance. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and regularly speak, read, write, interpret, and respond to words in the English language. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. This position is not benefit eligible except that is required by federal or state law.
