Job Title: Shop Assistant

The Shop Assistant at Black Gold Medical plays a vital support role in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized shop environment. This includes ensuring all fleet vehicles and medical equipment are cleaned, maintained, and inspected to company and safety standards. The position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a safety-first mindset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with clean abstract; must be 21+ to meet insurance requirements.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs regularly (medical bags ~55 lbs; baskets ~100 lbs with assistance).
  • Basic mechanical aptitude; experience using hand tools and performing simple mechanical tasks (e.g., tire inflation, minor repairs).
  • Prior experience in a shop, warehouse, or logistics environment is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • A safety-first attitude and willingness to strictly follow company protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Trustworthy and reliable for occasional driving or equipment deliveries under varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work overtime during peak periods (particularly November–January).

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance

  • Ensure all fleet vehicles and equipment (UTVs, ATVs, trailers, snowmobiles) are properly cleaned, inside and out, before dispatch and upon return. While detailing is not required, a thorough cleaning is expected.
  • Perform pre- and post-use inspections of all fleet vehicles and equipment using documented checklists via SiteDocs.
  • Assist with routine maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment, including checking fluids, tire pressure, greasing, and identifying any mechanical concerns.
  • Hook up and unhook trailers safely, including proper lifting techniques and secure connections.

GENERAL LABOR & SUPPORT TASKS

  • Assist with loading and unloading MTCs, including drilling, installing coolant lines, and running wiring—may require working underneath vehicles.
  • Handle heavy items such as tires and rubber treads, including stacking and storing safely.
  • Use basic hand and power tools (e.g., drills, wrenches, screwdrivers) to assist with tasks such as tire changes or mounting hardware.
  • Receive, label, and organize inventory; monitor stock levels and notify when items need replacement.
  • Support operations team with various logistical and hands-on tasks.
  • Occasionally run errands, perform local pickups/deliveries, or assist at jobsites depending on workload and capacity.
