Description

SALARY: £9,550 (£23,875 FTE)

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community?
We are looking for a dedicated, friendly, and enthusiastic Shop Assistant to join our team at our Furniture Warehouse in Plympton.
This is a large, fast-paced store, which sells a wide variety of donated items with an emphasis on furniture and homeware goods.
As a Shop Assistant, you will play an essential role in helping raise vital funds to support the hospice’s care for patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Providing excellent customer service through representing St Luke’s Values and promoting the essential work the charity provides
  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with both customers and donors
  • Assisting with the daily running of the shop through ensuring administration and banking, recruitment and management of volunteer staff and all health and safety requirements are adhered to
  • Processing sales transactions and stock accurately
  • Working enthusiastically and collaboratively with the Shop Volunteers, Assistants, and Shop Manager

Previous retail or charity work experience is desirable, and an ability to demonstrate personal flexibility is essential.
We actively promote equality of opportunity for all with the right mix of talent, skills and potential and welcome applications from a wide range of candidates, including those with criminal records. We select all candidates for interview based on their skills, qualifications and experience. Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of your offences.
We particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in St Luke’s workforce. These include people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people and LGBTQ+ people.
Unfortunately St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth aren’t able to sponsor individuals to work in the United Kingdom.

2ND INTERVIEW DATE: TBA

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.
Hello and thank you for checking out our current vacancy.
It’s worth setting up a job alert or simply checking back in regularly because - as St Luke’s continues to meet the demand of caring for more families - we’re always evolving and new opportunities spring up, both clinical and non-clinical. One of them could be just what you’re looking for!
We value all our people - not only our specialist doctors, nurses and social workers, but also our colleagues more behind the scenes, from our maintenance and catering staff to our fundraisers, administrators, educators and IT team. And that’s just to name a few! It takes a vast variety of skills, experience and knowledge to keep our vital service running smoothly.
As an Employer of Choice, we offer our staff a wide range of benefits and rewards. Not only generous annual leave and pension schemes, but a fantastic health scheme to help towards the cost of eye tests, dental care and physiotherapy. In addition, this gives you access a GP, and counselling and practical information helplines, 24/7.
While working with our hospice is hugely rewarding, knowing you’re helping us make such an important difference, we recognise it’s work that can be challenging emotionally. That’s why, when you join us, we’ll be here to support you all the way.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to join our friendly, award-winning team – learn more about working life at St Luke’s on our dedicated jobs page.
