JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Shop Foreman to oversee operations in our busy workshop. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, with hands-on experience in managing a team of technicians. This role requires excellent leadership abilities, a commitment to safety, and a customer-focused approach to service delivery. The Shop Foreman will ensure that all work is completed efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
Work will involve the overhaul, repair and maintenance of all mechanical components of heavy commercial vehicles and trailer. Work shall also include maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as cranes, loaders, skid steers, and other equipment.
Work is performed primarily in the shop; however, field repairs may be required.
Marchant Crane Inc. Is a CVIP certified facility for our own equipment. As such, the mechanic joining our team shall be capable of performing the annual CVIP inspections for our commercial units.
This role also includes the tracking of our preventative maintenance and CVIP management.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Certified Alberta Journeyman in the trade of Heavy Duty Mechanic.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
  • Class 1 Drivers License is considered an asset but not mandatory
  • Coordination and manual dexterity
  • Good vision
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • Acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Intermediate (Standard) First Aid is an asset
  • Adhere to all company, and where applicable, client safe work rules and procedures at all times
  • Must be able to pass a background check as part of our CVIP requirements
    Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
    Pay: $40.00-$55.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily operations of the shop, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Lead a team of apprentice mechanics and technicians in the repair and maintenance of various equipment
  • Provide technical guidance and support
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and manage inventory of tools and parts.
  • Utilize schematics for troubleshooting mechanical issues effectively.
  • Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, replaces and tests all components of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, engine starting systems, and steering and braking systems.
  • Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, replaces and tests all components of clutches, hydraulic couplings, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies.
  • Inspects, repairs, and re-assembles suspension systems, wheels and tracks.
  • Inspects, repairs or replaces equipment winches, power take-offs, pneumatic or hydraulic pumps, booms, cables, blades and buckets.
  • Inspects, repairs, overhauls and re-assembles electrical components such as alternators, distributors, starters, relays and solenoids, etc.
  • Prepare work order reports for work completed
  • Maintain accurate records for CVIP management
  • Test / calibrate tools as needed
  • Interprets technical manuals relating to manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements. Keeps minor records.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Potential to utilize service truck
  • Shutting down and securing the machine properly when it is unattended
  • Complete and maintain accurate hours of service records, safety reports, and other work done on the truck/crane while in the field
  • Uphold HSE regulations and be aware of any site conditions that could affect the diving and/or crane operation
