Inspired HR is partnering with a confidential client in Calgary’s millwork industry to recruit a Shop Foreman. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly reputable organization that specializes in custom, high-end woodworking projects.
The Shop Foreman is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership and oversight of shop operations, ensuring that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role will supervise and develop a talented team of cabinetmakers, finishers, equipment operators, apprentices, and shippers while maintaining smooth production flow.
Success in this role requires a strong balance of hands-on technical expertise, leadership skills, and organizational ability.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Staff Development
- Plan, schedule, and prioritize work orders to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Assign tasks based on skills and project needs.
- Supervise, train, and mentor team members, with a focus on apprentice development.
- Monitor performance, attendance, and conduct; provide coaching and feedback.
- Promote a respectful, collaborative workplace culture.
Shop Operations & Efficiency
- Oversee day-to-day shop activities for safe and efficient production.
- Review and interpret shop drawings and specifications.
- Work with Operations, Estimating, and Project Management to align shop output with project requirements.
- Maintain material and tool inventory, ensuring proper tracking and replenishment.
- Champion Lean/6S practices and implement Standard Operating Procedures.
Quality & Coordination
- Enforce quality checks to meet specifications and industry standards (AWMAC/NAAWS).
- Approve material mockups and minimize rework.
- Coordinate with site teams to ensure timely deliveries and resolve shop-to-site issues.
Administration & Compliance
- Provide daily and weekly production updates.
- Participate in production meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committee activities.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, including incident reporting and PPE enforcement.
Success Measures

Qualifications
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a millwork, cabinetry, or woodworking environment.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality standards.
- Familiarity with AWMAC/NAAWS standards is an asset.
