Description
Description The Shop Heavy Equipment Technician performs scheduled preventative maintenance and repair or replacement work on heavy, excavation/construction equipment in the maintenance shop. Also, uses modern equipment to determine problems and set up vehicle systems. Determines parts that are needed or must be fabricated, and orders parts and materials through appropriate departments. Assures that equipment assigned is in good working condition and meets all safety specifications. Work is done primarily during day light hours but may require flexibility to accommodate job schedules. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs preventative maintenance based on established schedule using modern diagnostic instruments and equipment. Troubleshoots equipment engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and related systems. Repairs or rebuilds vehicle engines and systems as appropriate. Performs tasks such as thermal cutting, welding, grinding and fabricating parts as necessary. Uses a variety of hand, power tools and electronic devices to accomplish work. Reads and interprets vehicle manuals and schematic diagrams. Uses hoists to remove or install heavy components. May be asked to travel to job site to perform work if necessary. Effectively communicates with Service Manager and operations about the status of the equipment. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A level of education that permits reading and understanding technical information as found in heavy, excavation/construction equipment maintenance and repair manuals and bulletins. Ability to read and interpret diagnostic instruments. Must have general knowledge of computers. Requires mechanical/electrical/hydraulic aptitude. Requires two years of experience in a similar environment to that of Brubacher.
Responsibilities
