Description Job Summary The Shop Technician / Shop Hand supports daily operations in a welding and fabrication shop. This entry-level role is ideal for someone looking to build hands-on experience in metal fabrication, welding support, and general shop operations. The position focuses on assisting skilled welders and fabricators, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and learning shop processes and equipment. Key Responsibilities Assist welders and fabricators with setup, material handling, and job preparation Load, unload, and organize raw materials and finished parts Grind, deburr, clean, and prep metal components for welding or finishing Operate basic shop tools and equipment (band saws, grinders, drills, etc.) under supervision Perform basic measurements using tape measures, calipers, and squares Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, tools, and work areas Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE Help with basic maintenance of shop equipment and tools Perform other general shop duties as assigned Requirements Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred Interest in welding, fabrication, or skilled trades Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team Willingness to learn new skills and take direction Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools Reliable attendance and strong work ethic Preferred (But Not Required) Previous shop, construction, or hands-on work experience Basic knowledge of welding or metalworking processes Forklift certification or willingness to obtain Physical Requirements Ability to stand for long periods and work in a shop environment Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Comfortable working around machinery, noise, heat, and metal materials
