Description

The Role As a Shopify Developer, you will play a crucial role in developing and customising high-performing Shopify stores that precisely meet our clients' unique needs. While this position is primarily a front-end role focused on HTML and Liquid, we are looking for a versatile developer who can bridge the gap between storefront and system. You will be expected to support our existing back-end team using PHP and Laravel to maintain and build out Shopify apps for both new and existing projects. This role demands a commitment to high coding standards, technical excellence, and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the wider development team. You must maintain a "can-do" attitude, actively keep up-to-date with emerging e-commerce technologies, and possess the communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into clear language for stakeholders across the business. What You’ll Do Shopify Development & Front-End Development Develop and customise Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Build new features and functionalities to enhance user experience and store performance. Integrate third-party APIs and services to extend store capabilities. Conduct thorough testing for cross-device compatibility and optimize websites for speed, performance, and SEO. Back-End & App Support Assist the back-end team by using PHP and Laravel to support existing Shopify apps and contribute to the development of new ones. Integrate third-party APIs and services to extend store capabilities and ensure robust data synchronisation. Project Collaboration & Quality Work closely with designers and project managers to deliver projects on time and provide accurate estimates. Participate in code reviews to maintain high standards and diagnose/resolve complex technical issues with scalable solutions. Mentorship Conduct code reviews to maintain high code quality standards. Problem-Solving Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. Implement solutions that are scalable and maintainable. What You’ll Bring Technical Skills Shopify Expertise: Solid experience with the Shopify platform, including theme customisation and app integration. Advanced Web Development: Strong proficiency in Liquid, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. Back-End Capability: Practical experience with PHP and Laravel, with a willingness to jump into back-end tasks as and when required to support the team. API Knowledge: Experience working with Shopify APIs and developing custom solutions. Responsive Design: Ability to create responsive designs that function flawlessly across devices. Agile Workflow: Practical experience working within Agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban), including participation in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives. Project Management Tools: Working knowledge and proficiency with JIRA (or similar tools like Trello/Asana) for task management, bug tracking, and workflow management. Soft Skills Adaptability: A proactive approach to switching between front-end tasks and back-end support. Communication: Effective verbal and written skills for team collaboration and stakeholder management. Attention to Detail: A meticulous commitment to delivering high-quality, bug-free code. Experience Professional Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in Shopify development. Full-Stack Awareness: A proven track record of working within a team that manages both the storefront and the underlying application logic. Soft Skills Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical abilities to tackle complex coding challenges. Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication for team collaboration. Experience Professional Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Shopify development. Version Control: Proficient in using Git and collaborative workflows Nice To Haves Experience with Shopify's New Stack: Familiarity with Shopify Hydrogen/Oxygen for headless commerce. Knowledge of Remix or other modern React frameworks. Advanced Theme Development: Proficiency with Theme App Extensions over older theme customization methods. Experience with advanced front-end tooling (e.g., Webpack, Gulp, Rollup). Performance Optimisation: Deep understanding of web performance best practices (Core Web Vitals, image optimization, critical CSS). Experience auditing and improving PageSpeed Insights scores. CI/CD & DevOps: Experience setting up automated theme deployments using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar tools. Familiarity with version control best practices like Git Flow.
