Description
Description San Francisco Decorator Showcase is an annual fundraising event dedicated to supporting the University High School’s Financial Aid Program. Each year, we transform a spectacular San Francisco home into an immersive exhibition, curated by the most prominent interior and landscape designers, builders, and artisans. The Construction On-Site Manager is a critical support role, responsible for the daily management, security, and safety of the Showcase property during the construction and design phase. Requirements Key Responsibilities and Reporting The Construction On-Site Manager reports to the Decorator Showcase Executive Director and is seasonal, part time role. The role takes place on site from 7:30am - 4:00pm two days per week from January 12 to mid April 17, four days per week the week of Feb 17 and Saturdays and Sundays in March and April (10-4pm Sat, 10-2pm Sun). 1. Site Preparation and Security (Opening & Closing) Opening Procedures: Disarm the security system, set up the entrance (move the house board and open the locked porta-potty), inspect all rooms for safety hazards or damage, and ensure common areas (entrance, bathrooms) are clean, stocked, and prepared for the workday. Closing Procedures: Secure the property by turning off the water, locking the porta-potty, checking and closing all windows and doors, and activating the alarm system. 2. Site Safety and Progress Monitoring Safety Enforcement: Ensure the safety of the worksite by monitoring for and clearing hazards in common areas, clearing the entry way for walk through, and accessing first aid kits and fire extinguishers if needed. Site Management: Walk through the house hourly to monitor construction progress and enforce proper procedures (e.g., covering smoke detectors during painting, ensuring subcontractors clean their work areas and don’t double park or block neighbors parking). Troubleshooting: Address immediate site issues such as circuit breaker malfunctions, communications about water shut-offs. Material and Waste: Enforce proper hauling of trash by subcontractors and ensure the safe, correct disposal of paint and wallpaper water. 3. Access Control and Visitor Management Logistics & Rules: Welcome and oversee all personnel entering and exiting the property, explain house rules, and ensure all visitors are identified. Visitor Assistance: Direct and assist visitors, including designers, builders, subs, and city inspectors (providing them with job cards and direction). Delivery Handling: Sign for and manage incoming mail and packages. 4. Communications and Stakeholder Relations Neighbor Liaison: Serve as the first point of contact for all communications from neighbors or passersby, troubleshooting issues related to parking, packages, or noise. Communication: Answer basic questions about the Showcase schedule (opening dates, construction timeline). Reporting: Relay critical information to the Executive Director and escalate issues (e.g., parking disputes, major site problems) as needed. 5. Project Support (As Needed) Assist the Executive Director with special logistical projects, which may include: Creating and organizing the paint and storage. Hanging room identification signs. Organizing program book inventory. Qualifications Experience in construction site management, property management, facilities management or a related role. Strong organizational skills and an acute attention to detail regarding safety and security. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with designers, contractors, neighbors, and city officials. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in troubleshooting and emergency situations. Familiarity with construction best practices and safety procedures. This is a visible role that requires problem solving, reliability and professionalism to maintain the integrity of the property and Decorator Showcase. Pay is $35 per hour. Application Process: Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume outlining their qualifications, experience, and interest in the position. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Non-Discrimination: UHS values diversity and seeks talented students, faculty, and staff from different backgrounds.
