We are currently looking for a safety professional to join our Health & Safety team as a Safety Specialist - Shutdowns. Your role will be to ensure leaders, team members and contractor partners are provided with coaching and mentoring to achieve confidence and competence in safety compliance, assurance activities and are proactive in identifying and managing risk.
Reporting to the Superintendent Health and Safety, you will be responsible for assisting with the improvement, implementation, and planning of Safety Management Systems in the Shutdown environment and working on continual improvement and effective implementation of project work in a dynamic mining operation. Consulting with key stakeholders on the development, implementation and improvement of the Health and Safety programs and systems, you will foster strong relationships with our Contracting partners and ensure alignment with Fortescue Health and Safety systems. Your role will also see yourself coach and mentor leaders and peers in safety excellence whilst ensure risk management processes are in place for the monitoring and reduction of health and safety risks

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety (or equivalent);
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a health and safety position
  • Adept knowledge of health and safety regulations, legal compliance, and risk management practices.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility with roster and shift arrangements in alignment with the shutdown schedule where required
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess risks and develop innovative solutions to mitigate them.
  • Advanced level MS Office software use, specifically excel
  • Ability to think strategically, with consideration of the broader context of the business goals.
  • Ability to operate effectively across multiple portfolios and manage conflicting schedules with the ability to prioritise.
Responsibilities
  • Work with Shutdown Leaders to ensure the improvement strategy is suitable to their operational needs and risk profile
  • Coach and mentor Senior Leaders, Supervisors and Health and Safety Reps through structured and informal processes
  • Anticipate and proactively resolve potential problems to ensure a safe working environment using risk assessment and data analysis
  • Proactively propose improvment ideas based on knowledge, experience or recurring problems, challenge the status quo
  • Provide safety training, TBRA facilitation, Incident Analysis Facilitation, reports,trending, assurance/validation, prepare safety communications
  • Build relationships with vendor partners, creating a ’One Team’ approach, driving vendor engagement and participation
