Position: Retirement Home Shuttle Van Driver
Department: Maintenance Department
Reports to: Maintenance Manager

SUMMARY:

The Retirement Home Shuttle Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting residents of the retirement home to various destinations such as medical appointments, shopping centers, and social events. This position requires excellent driving skills, a patient and friendly demeanor, and a genuine interest in assisting the elderly population. as well some light houseman duties during down time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid “G” driver’s license (minimum) with a clean driving record. Previous experience in passenger transportation preferred.
  • Familiarity with the local area and routes. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with elderly individuals with patience and compassion.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Ability to pass a venerable sector police record check.
  • Ability to read, speak and write English and to follow oral and written direction
  • Must be a competent person as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Ability to complete light maintenance tasks such as, wash windows, water garden plants, light shampooing, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to assist residents with boarding and alighting the vehicle.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver mobility aids, such as wheelchairs or walkers, as needed.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safe Transportation: Operate the retirement home’s shuttle van in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring the well-being and comfort of all passengers.
  • Scheduled Routes: Adhere to established transportation schedules, ensuring timely pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the shuttle Van, reporting any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to residents, assisting them with boarding and alighting the vehicle, securing mobility aids if necessary, and ensuring their needs are met during the journey.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with the Maintenance Manager regarding any changes, concerns, or incidents related to transportation services.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations, including accidents or medical emergencies.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of trips, including mileage, destinations, and any incidents or feedback from residents.
  • Light Maintenance: Tasks such as washing windows, water garden plants, light shampooing, etc.
