Description:
Why us?
We offer you…
…the opportunity of paid open-source project work like our developer tool sidebase during work time (at least one dedicated day per week, we are happy to discuss which projects to contribute to)
…internal open-source experience & infrastructure, like our very own Discord, Twitter Account and publishing processes. We’d be happy for you to shape this with your own vision.
…the option to work fully remote or hybrid in the office in Cologne. Either way, we meet up regularly for team events and from time to time we even travel together.
…PR reviews that are not just another process for us. We are serious about taking your code and you to the next level, while also learning all the new patterns and techniques that your code has to offer. No bullshit, see for yourself!
…freedom to choose your own Operating System and working in an agile setting
.…a dedicated Senior Dev Ops Engineer who supports all project teams with superb development pipelines and who just makes your life a lot better
.…good work atmosphere in an ambitious team, flat hierarchies, appreciative communication and room for feedback.
If you want to apply, don’t submit a standard motivation letter, but rather send us 4-5 sentences on why you would be happy to work with or links to open source contributions you’ve made (don’t worry if you’ve made none, it is not expected). Contributions can be comments, commits, PRs, issues, …
Tasks
You should be up for…
…open source work: We love open-source and want to give back to the community. Ideally, you feel the same & have some open-source experience under your belt. You love to write open-source code, communicate with the community (e.g., working through issues) and can develop a vision for open-source-projects
…our tech stack: We use the newest technologies, so you don’t waste time dealing with legacy things: You will work with TypeScript, Vue 3, Nuxt 3. All our projects are Dockerized and many run in Kubernetes.
…taking on a leading role: Together with a Product Manager you will be leading projects, usually in teams of 2-4 people, while having other Technical leaders to collaborate and consult. Oftentimes You’ll participate from the early stage of a project conceptualization phase, plan the architecture and then go into implementation.
…joining the fellowship: You will be working alongside other experienced Software Engineers and Product Managers on different software engineering projects. You will also be having weekly sparring sessions with one of the founders (Nils) to discuss your personal and professional development.
…helping people to level up: mentoring less experienced developers within our proven mentoring process that helps both mentor and mentee to continuously improve their professional skills.
…having an impact: You will be an important part of Sidestream. You can have a lot of impact on the future of our company, for example by introducing new technologies or suggesting new industries to work in.
Requirements
You are right here with us if you…
…have experience with open-source work. Ideally, you can share this experience with us, so that we can have a look at it together
…have advanced experience in Typescript or JavaScript and ideally Vue or React. You don’t mind working in Frontend or Backend part of the Fullstack TypeScript applications that we build.
…have at least a few years of professional experience. We don’t set clear ranges here, but you should be able to finish projects in a self-sustained way and feel ready to help lead less experienced developers with finding solutions to complex problems.
…enjoy writing code that is high quality, production-ready and always peer-reviewed.
…can identify with our pragmatic mindset. First: do the right things, Second: do the things right.
…don’t mind doing a real life coding challenge at some point in the application process: We don’t look for pure technical managers. We all enjoy rolling up our sleeves and write some code.…have good English and German skills to communicate with the team
