The Phoenix Convention Center and Venues hosts a diverse range of conventions, trade shows, meetings, and entertainment events in one of the premier convention facilities in the United States. We enhance the economic vitality of the Downtown area, the City of Phoenix, and the State of Arizona by supporting tourism related industries/businesses and cultural organizations.
The Phoenix Convention Center is seeking a dedicated, professional to join their team as a Sign Specialist II.
This role will perform skilled tasks in the design and manufacture of signs. Duties include using specialized computers, scanners, software, plotters, silk screening equipment, engravers, and other processes to create standard or customized signs. Types of signs produced include traffic signs and other exterior signs, as well as interior building signs such as directional signs, ADA and life safety signs, banners, and name plates. Types of sign material include aluminum, vinyl, plastic, brass, glass, and wood, among others. Work involves interacting with customers or vendors to discuss needs and to advise on different methods, materials, wording, and size/placement of signs. Incumbents often work independently and exercise discretion and judgment for such tasks as editing graphics, mixing paint or inks, and maximizing the capabilities of the sign-making computers, software, and other equipment. Some Sign Specialists II serve as lead workers in the absence of the shop supervisor. Work is performed under general supervision of a Traffic Maintenance Foreman III, Building Maintenance Foreman or Supervisor, Aviation Supervisor I, or other supervisor.

PAY RANGE EXPLANATION:

  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 143. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.

  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of experience in sign production, including experience with computerized sign making equipment and silk screening.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience using modern sign-making technology and software such as Flexi Sign, Gerber Omega, Corel Draw, Photo Shop, Adobe Illustrator.
  • Experience producing different types of signs (traffic, directional, ADA/life safety, banners, name plates, etc.).
  • Experience managing shop/project management/workflow with excellent customer service.
  • Experience creating innovative sign designs in collaboration with clients.
  • Experience keeping records related to sign specifications, work order requests, materials used, labor expenditures, job status, estimates, and proposed or completed projects.
  • Experience in keeping estimates, tracking for a multitude of diverse projects.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with experience in the following:
  • Designing signage.
  • Editing graphics.
  • ADA-types.
  • SignLab print and cut (vinyl).Flexi print and cut (new).
