Description

Singing Teacher at Theatretrain Gloucester

  • Permanent, part-time position based in Gloucester
  • Creative freedom to direct students aged 6-18
  • Exciting Saturday work for music and singing professionals

Experience or qualifications in music and singing? Love working with young people? How would you like to join an innovative theatre training company as our Musical Director?
Theatretrain has been around for 30 years in locations all across the UK. We are so much more than a performing arts school – we are a team-based professional performing arts company for young people. With us, you’ll be able to pass your expertise on to our students. No curriculum to weigh you down and no two sessions the same!
Our aim is to give high-quality performance arts training to children and young people, so that they can carry their newfound confidence, teamwork and imagination forth with them well into adulthood. We also create large-scale shows for our students to remember at iconic venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the London Palladium and Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
As Musical Director at Theatretrain Gloucester, you will lead our Saturday Main Company Group sessions from 10:00 to 13:00 at The University of Gloucestershire, Oxtalls Campus, with the occasional weekday evening rehearsal leading up to our big performances. You must be able to adapt your musical directing style to respond well to different groups and voices - no ‘this worked for my last group, so it’ll work for this one too’. We want you to create transformative musical experiences for our 6-18-year-olds in conjunction with the body, the emotions and the mind. Such is the combination of theatre, music and dance.

Ideally you’ll have…

  • Experience working with young people
  • Professional music or musical theatre training and professional experience.
  • Great leadership skills that emulate patience and compassion, but also enthusiasm and energy for creating a powerful choral sound
  • The ability to create and teach harmonies
  • Good understanding of vocal health and effective voice technique to promote safe practice
  • Piano skills (desirable)
  • Flexibility to absorb the Theatretrain Way
  • An in-date DBS (or be happy to apply for one)

If you’re excited by the prospect of helping others grow up to share your passion for musical theatre, then this position is for you. If you’re ready to change lives every weekend, send your CV and a cover letter to gloucester@theatretrain.co.uk. We look forward to hearing from you!
