POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Site Accountant to lead our German finance function. This role combines financial management with product costing support, requiring someone who can work autonomously while maintaining strong links to our UK based team.
The successful candidate will take ownership of all local financial operations, from daily cash management to annual audit coordination.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified accountant (German StB, ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in similar role
  • Proven experience in German accounting standards and tax compliance
  • Previous audit coordination and management experience
  • Manufacturing or production environment experience preferred

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of German GAAP and tax legislation
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling capabilities
  • Experience with ERP systems (Advanter system knowledge advantageous)
  • Understanding of cost accounting principles
  • Cash flow management and forecasting expertise

Language & Communication

  • Native or business-level German essential
  • Fluent English for communication with UK management

Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts and financial statements
  • Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts and manage local cash requirements
  • Oversee daily financial operations and transaction processing
  • Ensure compliance with German GAAP and local regulatory requirements
  • Maintain and optimize DATEV accounting system processes
  • Coordinate month-end and year-end closing procedures
  • Report directly to UK-based CFO with regular performance updates
  • Support group financial planning and budgeting processes

Commercial Support

  • Support Production Manager to manage product costing data base
  • Support pricing decisions using data from the Advanter costing database
  • Oversee stock valuations and ensure accuracy of stock records
  • Develop and maintain cost allocation models for reproduction and framing services
  • Create financial reports to support operational decision-making

Audit & Compliance

  • Lead annual financial audit process as primary point of contact
  • Coordinate and manage tax authority audits and enquiries
  • Ensure compliance with German tax legislation and filing requirements
  • Ensure products being shipped to the UK have the necessary export documentation
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and develop existing finance team members
  • Provide guidance on credit management and general administration
  • Establish clear processes and procedures for finance operations
  • Foster collaborative working relationships across departments
