Description

Our client, a gold exploration and development company with a focus on advancing a key gold deposit, is seeking an experienced Controller to join their collaborative team in Timmins. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will coordinate and supervise the accounting and procurement group. The key responsibilities will include providing technical and supervisory leadership within the department while acting as a financial resource for operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate eager to join a growing organization in its early stages, with the ability to make a meaningful impact and grow alongside the company. The role follows a 4-on/3-off schedule.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years of accounting experience with minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role preferably in mining industry or industrial environment
  • University degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting designation is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial systems and advanced excel skills
  • Strong numeric, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a focus on cost control and operational efficiency.
  • Provide purpose, direction and motivation to enhance team performance and effectiveness.
  • Act in a manner that builds trust and demonstrates integrity.
  • Promote efficient and cost-effective practices.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and generate accurate and timely financial statements, reports and statistical information to departments, mine management, regional and corporate offices and various government and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide variance analysis on monthly, quarterly and annual cost reports, review the cost report with departments.
  • Collaborate with mine planning, operations, and corporate teams, develop annual budgets, business plans and forecasts.
  • Aid / guidance in preparation of authorization for expenditures reports (AFEs).
  • Coordinate and prepare the document as requested by the external auditor. Implement and monitor audit recommendations (internal and external).
  • Lead the accounting team, ensuring processing is timely and accurate and that site procedures are effective and efficient.
  • Ownership of internal controls, policies and procedures ensuring all are adhered to and consistent with corporate objectives.
  • Development of accounting staff via reviews, mentoring, coaching and training.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and corporate accounting guidelines and adhere to the ongoing governance of the accounting practices. Communicate accounting policy changes to management, ensuring understanding and compliance.
  • Ensure that all provincial, federal, legal, corporate, and professional standards and laws are met.
