We’re looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Site Coordinator & Social Media Manager to join our team and support the daily flow of content across our platforms. This role is essential in ensuring our newsroom runs smoothly, our community stays informed, and breaking news is covered quickly and effectively.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Site Coordinator & Social Media Manager will work directly with the Senior News Producer to manage The BayNet’s content pipeline, social media presence, and community interactions. This position requires assisting with breaking news coverage — both online and in the field — in addition to managing daily news flow and digital engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Naturally curious; aggressive in pursuit of information.
  • Understanding of beat reporting and community-driven news.
  • Ability to respond in person and in a timely manner to breaking news or incidents on an on-call basis.
  • Exhibits courage, discipline, and sound judgment under pressure.
  • Proficiency with phone camera for photos and video.
  • Highly reliable, professional, and adaptable.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, deadline-driven environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong understanding of news and politics, with the ability to communicate effectively through oral and written channels.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle.
  • Must have a smartphone with a working camera.
  • Must have a reliable computer or laptop.

Responsibilities
  • Schedule and publish posts across Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).
  • Post press releases from email inbox, social media, and web sources — including writing custom headlines and gathering appropriate images.
  • Post and manage obituaries.
  • Maintain The BayNet’s daily content flow (20–30 stories per day) and pre-schedule weekend content in collaboration with editorial staff.
  • Approve and moderate website comments to ensure a safe and respectful community.
  • Monitor and manage Facebook comments, hiding or removing inappropriate responses as needed.
  • Answer phones and coordinate inbound tips/inquiries.
  • Manage Facebook Messenger inbox, relaying community tips and photos to the newsroom through email or Slack.
  • Assist with breaking news coverage — including quickly posting updates online, gathering information, and reporting on-location when necessary.
