Responsible for the unloading of incoming waste prior to acceptance inspection by the Chemist. Once inspected, waste must be segregated and stored in the appropriate designated storage bays. Further processing of waste may be required as directed. The role will predominantly include duties within the Bulking Bay and other site duties as necessary, supporting the consolidation and handling of compatible waste streams in line with site procedures and health & safety requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Complete all pre-use FLT (Forklift Truck) inspections, reporting any faults to Management.
  • Complete PUWER safety checks on any equipment or tools used, recording findings on the appropriate form where one exists.
  • Safely operate a counterbalance FLT in line with the company’s P.A.S.S. policy.
  • Carry out Bulking Bay operations as directed by a Technically Competent Person (TCP), including the safe consolidation of compatible wastes.
  • Operation of telehandler and mini 360 digger (training provided)
  • Weigh incoming loads on the site weighbridge prior to unloading.
  • Control vehicle movements on site (if trained as a banksman).
  • Separate and segregate inspected waste to ensure items are safe, non-leaking, and compliant for storage. Ensure stability of pallets and compatibility of stored waste, following HSG 71 guidelines and Environmental Permit conditions. All waste labels must be clearly visible.
  • Undertake general housekeeping duties, including sweeping, litter picking, and drum crushing.
  • Repack materials into new containers as needed, sorting and segregating under direction.
  • Complete batch sheets/lists to ensure traceability of all processed waste.
  • Prepare outgoing loads, including picking pallets from storage.
  • Load outgoing vehicles, including hook loaders.
  • Actively promote a positive Health & Safety culture—reporting at least one near miss per month and promptly addressing potential hazards.
  • Support other teams as required.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably required by the business.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid FLT Counterbalance Licence

What You’ll Bring:

  • Experience working in the Hazardous Waste Sector (preferred but not essential)
  • Previous warehousing experience (preferred but not essential)
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, in a hazardous chemical environment, using a hands-on/manual approach
  • Ability to read and understand written safety instructions, including chemical labelling
  • Ability to write and perform basic numerical tasks, such as completing batch sheets to ensure waste traceability
