Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)
Cox Construction Co. is a General Contractor specializing in Federal, State, and Local government projects. We are based in North County San Diego and have received construction and safety awards for projects in California, Nevada, and Arizona. We have been in business for 46 years and are looking for people who want to build long-term careers!
We are currently looking for a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for a $20MM project located in the Oceanside CA, area. This project is for the Federal Government on a Federal installation. The project is underway and scheduled for completion January 2027. The ideal candidate would transition from this project to the next.
SSHO Responsibilities:
· Responsible for the Project’s overall safety in compliance with the project and company’s current safety program, policies, and expectations.
· Represents the company in a positive and professional manner.
· Assist company safety director with project start-up documents, company training and education programs, and overall company safety record keeping.
· Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff and subcontractor representatives
· Conduct daily safety and health inspections and job specific training.
· Maintain written daily logs and deficiency tracking systems.
· Willingness to stop work if not complying with safety regulations.
· Ability to conduct 3rd party safety inspections, including an OSHA inspection.
· Maintain applicable safety reference material on the jobsite.
· Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws, including State and Federal OSHA Standards
· Create activity hazard analysis’ (AHA’s) and ability to implement and enforce.
· Ensure subcontractor compliance with the company and Owner’s Safety and Health requirements.
SSHO Qualifications:
· Must have 10 years relevant experience as a SSHO or Safety Manager or, college graduate with 5 years of experience.
· Knowledgeable in State and/or Federal Construction safety requirements
· Must be dependable and organized
· Required to have a valid driver’s license
· Required to have a full background check to obtain the ability to access Government facilities.
· Current US Army Corps of Engineers EM-385-1-1 Certification
· OSHA 30 hour trained.
