JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the HSE Manager, the Safety Coordinator supports Standard General’s safety culture and acts as a resource for all safety related concerns. Conducting workplace investigations and inspections while ensuring company safety policies and procedures are understood and followed are key to the role. This is a project-based role in Calgary Alberta.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 or GED.
  • NCSO Certification
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Standard First Aid.
  • Train-the-Trainer certifications are considered an asset.
  • An OHS Certificate from a post-secondary institution or willingness to obtain is considered an asset.
  • Experience in Ground Disturbance activities and a valid Level 2 GD certificate.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience and proven track record within a safety department.
  • Experience in Heavy Civil Construction is an asset.
  • Experience with excavating and trenching, Locates, Ground Disturbance work, confined space and fall protection procedures is considered an asset.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Legislation, WCB and Provincial/Federal job and industry specific legislation.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills in Excel, Work, Project, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of NSC Legislation is an asset.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as an information resource, conduct new employee site orientations and assist with the communication of safety related initiatives to the employees of Standard General Calgary and the subcontractors on site.
  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Assist supervision in conducting accident/incident investigation reports and act as the first response to investigate incidents on the site. Determine root cause and assist in the development of timely and relevant corrective actions.
  • Encourage and educate employees on how to perform their tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Conduct daily worksite inspections and audits to ensure employee and sub-contractor compliance with Standard General Policies, Procedures and the Alberta OH&S Legislation.
  • Track and maintain employee safety training records
  • Track and maintain site based safety statistics, inspections, meetings and Hazard assessments
  • Ensure all workers have access to applicable policies, procedures and SDS documentation.
  • In conjunction with WCTL and the Safety Manager, assist in maintaining the company’s Modified Work Program and managing any site WCB claims.
  • Organize and maintain safety documentation.
  • Track monthly inspections by all supervisory levels and companies to ensure compliance with company and project stated frequencies.
  • Promote a team approach throughout the organization and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
  • Collaborate with the project team on other special initiatives, as required.
  • Other Safety related duties as required.
