We are seeking a highly motivated Site Safety Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be local and bring regional knowledge and responsiveness, ensuring our projects meet Apex’s high safety standards while aligning with federal compliance requirements.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Site Safety Officer (SSO) will be responsible for overseeing all safety-related activities on-site. This includes developing and enforcing health and safety protocols, conducting training, leading inspections, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and Apex Constructors’ internal safety requirements.
This is a mission-critical role requiring a proactive, hands-on safety professional who is detail-oriented and capable of operating in complex construction environments, particularly federal projects that demand strict adherence to safety and security policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in a safety role on federal, government, or high-risk construction projects.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional training in occupational safety or construction management preferred.
  • Certifications:
  • OSHA 30-hour certification (required).
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification (required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • CHST, STS, or CSP certification is a plus.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and other applicable federal safety standards.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams to embrace a strong safety culture.
  • Excellent documentation, observation, and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
  • Familiarity with DoD construction is preferred, as this work will take place on a DoD installation

Responsibilities
  • Safety Program Implementation: Develop, implement, and continuously improve site-specific safety plans and activity hazard analyses.
  • Compliance Assurance: Ensure all operations comply with OSHA regulations, federal safety standards, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Inspections & Audits: Conduct routine job site inspections and safety audits; document findings and enforce corrective actions.
  • Incident Management: Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe behaviors or conditions. Lead root cause analyses and oversee documentation/reporting.
  • Training & Orientation: Provide safety orientation for all personnel, including subcontractors. Conduct toolbox talks and ongoing safety education.
  • Collaboration & Reporting: Work closely with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager, and client safety personnel to maintain cohesive safety integration across the project.
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and timely safety logs, permits, inspection reports, and training documentation.
