Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a structural engineer to join our growing and dynamic Precast Technical Solutions team. Precast Technical Solutions (PTS) is an integral part of the Explore Manufacturing Design Centre, established to provide end-to-end leadership and best practice in precast design and engineering throughout the full design process. This role is an opportunity to be at the forefront of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) in the UK, with teams developing and delivering innovative solutions, utilising products that we produce through our own manufacturing facility, the Centre for Excellence for Modern Construction (CEMC).
At Explore Manufacturing we produce a variety of precast concrete products, many of which require bespoke solutions. The Structural Engineer role is required to provide structural engineering design support to reduce risk and ensure ‘engineered safety’ throughout the full life cycle of the manufactured product, and to provide structural engineering input on Tenders and Pre-Construction Service Agreement (PCSA) engagements for all DfMA projects across Building Structures, Facades and Infrastructure. The role is also required to produce permanent designs of some precast elements including associated supporting structure.
The individual will work closely with the production team to assess temporary works and lifting design requirements and develop appropriate engineering solutions, and with bid teams to assess existing designs and develop alternative, DfMA product-based designs during the tender process to enable robust pricing and identification of technical risk. Additionally, we are always seeking to reduce the environmental impact of our product sets, where the engineering team is best placed to make a difference. This will be a critical role in delivering on Laing O’Rourke’s target to be a net zero carbon company by 2050.
