POSITION SUMMARY:

The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the construction activities that take place on Wales McLelland (WM) worksites. You will be involved in the supervision of sub-trades, WM site workers and maintaining compliance with WM safety and quality standards

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Site Superintendent working for a General Contractor in the construction industry with commercial, retail, and industrial new building construction
  • Concrete experience like tilt-Up and cast-in-place would be ideal
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high pressure situations in a fast paced, constantly changing environment (dealing with trades, budget constraints, tight project deadlines)
  • Construction Management certificate/diploma or Trade Qualification is considered an asset
  • Successful track-record in completion of commercial projects ($5-$20 Million Project Value)
  • Demonstrated understanding of construction means and methods associated with construction of commercial buildings, tenant improvements and related site-work
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to lead by example and set standard of professionalism
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, SiteMax (Project Tracking/Timecard System)
Responsibilities
  • Supervise all work crews on the site including employees, sub-trades and visitors
  • Direct all field staff to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget
  • Ensure all work on site is completed to WM quality standards
  • Understand the project plans/specifications to identify possible cost savings measures, and potential construction problems
  • Attend pre-construction project meetings as required
  • Prepare schedules in conjunction with the Project Manager
  • Manage the day-to-day field activities to ensure project milestone dates and overall schedule completion date is met
  • Ensure that as-built drawings are prepared on an ongoing basis by all trades during the construction period
  • Manage and look ahead no less than 2 weeks to proactively identify issues that could lead to delay
  • Manage changes in project scope to ensure that the most current contract documents are used at all times to prevent avoidable re-work
  • Order materials and schedule inspections as necessary throughout the construction process
  • Liaise with Project Manager as needed to provide updates and possible changes to project schedule
  • Prepare and expedite project deficiency lists
  • Maintain an organized job site, including site construction office
  • Ensure timely and cordial interaction with Accounting
  • Maintain daily paperwork such as timecard entry into system, field reports, schedule updates and email correspondence
  • Ensure all employees and contractors adhere to safety policy/standards to maintain a safe job site and ensure that the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act are enforced
  • Responsible to for ensuring all safety related matters or issues are dealt with and communicated appropriately
