Description

Job Title: Skilled Tradesperson & School Bus Driver – Taloyoak, Nunavut
Company: Dancing Bear General Contracting Incorporated
Location: Taloyoak, Nunavut (Relocation Required – periodic paid travel home)
Job Type: Full-Time, Long-Term

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Dancing Bear General Contracting Incorporated is hiring a versatile, hands-on worker to take on a multiple-hats role combining school bus driving with a variety of construction, repair, and operational tasks in Taloyoak, Nunavut – one of Canada’s most unique and welcoming Northern communities.
We’re looking for someone who wants more than just a short-term rotation – this position is best suited for someone willing to make Taloyoak their primary place of residence and become part of the community.
While your home base will be Taloyoak, as part of your benefits package we provide paid flights home approximately every three months (two weeks off – unpaid) so you can visit family and friends.
Mornings, lunch, and afternoons are dedicated to school bus driving, while the rest of the day involves helping with whatever tasks are needed on-site, as requested by the supervisor. These may include painting, plastering, repairs, assisting other trades, and other general duties.
Because supervisors may not always be in the community, you must be able to work independently, use good judgment, and manage your time effectively. You’ll need to demonstrate construction sense, operational awareness, self-management skills, and honesty, as we are relying on you to represent the company well in the community even without direct oversight.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class 1 or Class 2 driver’s licence with S endorsement (school bus) – company may cover cost of obtaining S endorsement if not already held
  • Skilled with tools and familiar with general building maintenance – formal certification an asset but not required
  • Construction sense and operational awareness to work effectively without close supervision
  • Physically fit for hands-on work in varying conditions
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and honest, with strong time-management skills
  • Comfortable using technology for communication and reporting
  • Adaptable to living and working in a remote Northern community
  • If requested, must provide a Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment
