JOB DESCRIPTION

ROLE TITLE: Apprenticeship Skills Coach & Functional Skills Tutor - Various
PRIMARY BASE: Chorley Head Office/Home Based
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Apprenticeship Progress and Guidance Manager
STAFF MANAGEMENT: None

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS DELIVERY

  • Plan, deliver and assess Functional Skills (Maths and English) up to Level 2.
  • Prepare Apprentices effectively for Functional Skills assessments prior to their first CIPS unit.
  • Book and coordinate Functional Skills exams and monitor outcomes.
  • Offer targeted intervention support for Apprentices needing additional help with Maths and English.

SKILLS COACHING & LEARNING DELIVERY

  • Deliver training, coaching, and assessment across a range of apprenticeship standards (e.g., Business Administration, Procurement & Supply, Team Leading, etc.).
  • Develop learning materials and maintain an engaging, compliant, and high-quality learning experience.
  • Guide apprentices in achieving their knowledge, skills, and behaviours aligned with End Point Assessment (EPA) requirements.
  • Ensure all learning content and records meet quality assurance and regulatory standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • GCSE English & Maths at grade C / 4 or above
  • Qualifications and experience in a relevant area (Procurement not necessary)
  • A1 Assessor Qualification (or willingness to work towards and complete within 6 months of start)
  • Teaching Qualification (or willingness to work towards and complete within 6 months of start)

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 2 years’ relevant occupational experience within the last 5 years (Procurement experience not necessary)
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Demonstrates problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to provide training and support to others
  • Experience of prioritising workload using own initiative and also working as part of a team

SKILLS

  • Demonstrates literacy, numeracy, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships and act as a team player
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly explain issues to customers and colleagues
  • Willingness to undertake further development and responsibilities

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

As an Apprenticeship Skills Coach & Functional Skills Tutor, you will play a vital role in guiding and supporting apprentices through their development journey. This dual-function role combines the delivery of high-quality progress mentoring, skills coaching, assessing and Functional Skills (Maths & English) support. You will monitor Apprentice progression, deliver engaging learning sessions, carry out diverse assessments and provide academic and pastoral support to ensure apprentices meet the standards of their apprenticeship programmes and are fully prepared for their assessments.
