Description Camp Conowingo is seeking a dependable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to support daily meal service during the summer camp season. Working closely with the Kitchen Manager and kitchen team, this role helps prepare nutritious, tasty meals for campers and staff while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen in a fast-paced camp environment. Flexibility and teamwork are essential, as camp life often brings new and unexpected tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with food preparation, cooking, serving, and clean-up for all meals and snacks Follow meal schedules and work collaboratively with kitchen staff Maintain proper food handling, sanitation, and safety standards Prepare meals that accommodate dietary needs and allergies Manage portion control to minimize waste Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food service areas Monitor food storage, temperature control, sanitation, and required records Support inventory management and communicate ordering needs Assist with special meals and camp events (e.g., themed meals, outdoor cookouts) Communicate effectively with camp staff regarding meals and special needs Complete required paperwork, including temperature logs and incident reports Model a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and professionalism Adapt to changing needs with flexibility and teamwork Promote Girl Scout values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion Participate in staff training, meetings, all-camp activities, and post-camp clean-up Prioritize excellent customer service for campers, families, volunteers, and staff Uphold all applicable Girl Scout, Maryland Health, Youth Camp Regulations, and ACA standards General Expectations for All Camp Staff Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic camp environment Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of youth and adults Strong teamwork, initiative, and professionalism Enthusiasm for the outdoors and willingness to live in a rustic setting Time Commitment Seasonal position, Sunday–Friday Living on-site is optional; rustic housing available Includes paid staff training and post-camp clean-up Two hours of scheduled time off daily and one day off per week (typically Saturday) Skills, Education, and/or Relevant Experience Experience in a commercial kitchen or food service setting required ServSafe Food Handler certification preferred (or willingness to obtain) Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and dietary needs of children Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to multitask Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of staff and campers CPR and First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain during paid training Strong communication and interpersonal skills Physical stamina for long, active workdays in a camp environment Ability to recognize and respond to safety hazards and emergencies Must pass required background, fingerprint, and drug screenings Salary Description $2,800 - $3,000 stipend for 7 week season
