JOB TITLE: SLI Finisher DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing
JOB SUMMARY: The SLI Finisher is responsible for interacting and working closely with the production shift supervisor on equipment set-up and equipment changeovers, day-to-day equipment operations and troubleshooting. This position must ensure the product meets all specifications and quality characteristics and machines are run within the set parameters.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Experience with safety and environmental training
  • Minimum 1 year manufacturing/factory experience preferred in a fast paced setting
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervision, and management
  • Familiar with inspection equipment, gauges, and measuring tools
  • Familiar with pneumatic tools
    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand/walk for 8-10 hours at a time. Bending, twisting, and turning. Full use of both hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or tooling; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk to hear. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds frequently and in excess of 140 pounds infrequently. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must follow OSHA guidelines on respirator fit testing and proper wear. Will wear goggles or face shield at all times while in department.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for:
  • Understanding and following policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to identify and report product, process and quality system non-conformities to lead personnel.
  • Responsible for controlling nonconforming products.
  • Must support implementation of corrective/preventative and improvement actions.
  • Responsible for day-to-day housekeeping of the surrounding production floor area.
  • Follows all plant safety guidelines, practices, and procedures including the proper use of personal protective equipment where required.
  • Verifies polarity of batteries on Formation skid.
  • Verifies specific gravity of one battery per skid.
  • Removes all intermediate wires from batteries within each skid.
  • Installs Deltas Pro-Eye with rubber mallet if applicable.
  • Removes any writing from batteries and places on Filler conveyor.
  • Sets top off Filler timer and adjust filling nozzles to battery vent wells to ensure battery is filled to appropriate level.
  • Manually adds/removes acid from cells that are not at appropriate level.
  • Apply finish vent caps and send battery into washer/blower.
  • Sets High-Rate Discharge (HRD) Tester up for the correct battery type by adjusting the parameters and the probes so that they contact each terminal.
  • Places any battery rejected the HRD onto the “QC Hold” skid and any battery with a cosmetic defect or blemish onto the “Shop” skid.
  • Buffs each terminal with appropriate terminal buffer.
  • Verifies correct voltage with voltmeter.
  • Applies all components including hex nuts, cosmetic caps, terminal protectors, etc.
  • Places batteries onto Finish skid appropriate order referring to skidding diagram.
  • Identifies finished skip of batteries with Finish tag containing the appropriate item number, battery description, quantity, date and work order.
  • Be familiar and compliant with the systems, procedures, and documentation of the Crown Quality System and how it relates to this position and Crown quality objectives.
    ACCOUNTABILITY: This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor.
