Job Description A snake milker safely extracts venom from live snakes for use in antivenom production and medical or scientific research, while caring for the animals and strictly managing safety risks.​ Core responsibilities Handle and restrain venomous snakes using hooks, tongs, and other tools, then “milk” them by encouraging a controlled bite onto a membrane or container to collect venom.​ Label, measure, and store collected venom, keep detailed records of species, quantity, date, and any observations for antivenom production or research labs.​ Maintain and clean enclosures, monitor snake health and behavior, and assist with feeding and basic husbandry to ensure animal welfare.​ Safety and collaboration Follow strict safety protocols to prevent bites, including use of protective equipment, emergency procedures, and antivenom access plans.​ Work closely with herpetologists, veterinarians, and researchers to provide venom samples and support studies on toxins and new treatments.​ Calibrate and maintain lab and handling equipment, and comply with legal regulations on keeping and working with venomous species.​ Qualifications Skills and qualifications Strong background in biology, zoology, herpetology, or a related field, often with specialized training in venomous snake handling.​ Excellent concentration, calmness under pressure, and high respect for safety, with genuine interest in snakes and conservation or medical research.​ Willingness to work in controlled labs or serpentariums with unusual hours and repetitive but high‑risk tasks that directly support lifesaving antivenom.​ Additional Information All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
